Welcome to the world of the danish police

In the Nørrebro quarter of Copenhagen is an old police station from 1884. Through the ages the old Station has housed arrested people, unmarried police officers and a station manager who lived in the station`s large apartment. Today the building is home to the Danish PoliceMuseum.

Murder weapons and motorcycles

At the Danish Police Museum you can find everything from fake artefacts to murder weapons from the most famous criminal cases. There are old police mortorcycles, tools from before the legalisation of pornography, a criminology department – and as in any other police station, there are of course also detentions.





The dark side of society
At the Museum you will have a unique opportunity to come face to face with the dark side of society. The story of the odd characters easily left out of the history books, but who have nonetheless been visible in the cityscape and taken up room in the police protocols: conartists, swindlers, prostitutes, thieves, brutal murderers and sophisticated gentleman thieves.

Coppers
When you visit the Museum you meet the police through the ages: the night watchman patroled with his mace and lit the streetlamps and sang watchman verses. The first real police officers in colourful uniforms, making them look like soldiers. The copper with his round helmet and large corpus, the aim of numerous satirical sketches. Of course you can also meet the police officers of the present in riot gear, able to withstand firebombs and things thrown.

The Danish Police Museum has been open to the public since 1993, but the history of the Criminal Museum goes back to 1904. The Museum has been thoroughly renovated in 2010 and the Museum is now one of Nørrebros most beautiful buildings. An english guide to the Museum is now availible for foreign visitors.
